Pillars of Healing

I’ve been healing for the past 15 years, and I’ve helped people on their healing journey for the past 10 years.

I wish someone would have taught me how to heal in a more sustainable way. I wish someone would have told me that healing is a lifelong practice, not a destination. I wish someone would have told me there was a way to heal that doesn’t lead to burnout.

If you’re tired of healing because it’s too hard, or maybe you’re scared of healing, I invite you to examine the following pillars of healing:

PRACTICE: healing is a skill. In order to improve or master a set of skills you need to practice. Choose one or two healing skills that work for you (mine is meditation), practice that skill until you master it.

PATIENCE: with yourself, with others, with the healing process. Healing is not a race, it’s not a competition. LESS is more in the healing world because too much, too fast is what caused the trauma in the first place.

PERSISTENCE: healing is difficult AT FIRST because we are learning something new (how to heal). Keep trying and learning at YOUR OWN PACE, don’t give up. You deserve to heal. Take breaks to resource with the intention to get back on your path.

PLAY: play is ANYTHING you do for the sole purpose of doing that thing. Playing like a kid is a great start. As adults we have access to play that goes beyond childhood interests & hobbies. Let your imagination run wild. This is a great way to take breaks from processing while still healing through joy, presence, and play.

If we truly want to pass down generational healing, we must teach safe & sustainable ways of doing this work.
